After a long day of travel, the boys finally arrived at the rink in Slave Lake at 6:30 to prepare for the 8pm game. In what was the home opener for the Slave Lake Thunder, they came out firing right off the bat scoring 2 quick goals and feeding off of a large boisterous crowd. The SISEC squad stayed focused and stuck to the game plan, coming back from being down 2-0 and 3-2, to tie the game at 3.
The Selects also lost a large piece or their puzzle, after Samuli Aheristo left the game midway through the 2nd period with an upper body injury due to a questionable hit. After rallying around Samuli's departure, the boys came out hard in the third period with Arrigo Burgener deflecting home his first of the season on a nice point shot from Lucas Schoenholzer on the power play. After both teams exchanged chances throughout the period, the game came to an end with the final score being 3-3. No quit from either squad tonight, as both teams played hard to the final whistle.
After a tough start, Jamie Nanchen made some huge saves to keep the team in it all night, stopping 29 of 32 shots he faced. After the game, the team came back to the hotel for a quick post game meal, while they all awaited the return of Samuli from the hospital. The team now looks ahead to tomorrows game vs Edmonton CAC BP. Bus departs Slave Lake at 9AM, stay tuned for updates throughout the day.
