Weekend Wrap Up: November 18-20

Well this weekend the team hit the road, once again heading to Edge & Banff. Friday night seemed to be a struggle for us, as we went down 1-0 early on into the game. It was a tough game to say the least, especially when you start the game with 6 straight penalties called against you. The boys fought until the end though, making Edge Maroon work until the final buzzer. Unfortunately, we dropped the game by a score of 3-2, with the goals coming from Givi Shepotko & Arseny Ivanov.

The next night it was back out to Edge to take on Gold, who were sitting in first place in the CSSHL at the time. We came out flying, lots of shots, playing physical, and by the end of the first we were up 2-0 thanks to goals by Givi Shepotko & Arseny Ivanov. We did slow down a bit during the 2nd, but managed to get 1 goal past the Gold goalie after Givi Shepotko picked up a Michael Kel breakaway rebound on the PK, while keeping everything out of our net. 3-0 after 40 minutes. 3rd period we locked it down, played it tight and finished the game with class, final score 3-0!

Sunday morning came quick, as the team was ready to avenge a 4-3 SO loss last time against Banff Academy. The team worked hard, getting tons of shots to the net and went into the 1st intermission up 1-0 thanks to Danis Farvazetdinov. Coming out for the 2nd, the boys were hungry for more, and it showed as Ivan Leuppi scored early, followed shortly after by Givi Shepotko. During the 2nd intermission speech, coaches Plonka & Voser spoke about how the team needed to continue to work on the little things, good passes, making smart plays, etc.. We stuck to the game plan and sure enough, Ivan Leuppi scored his 2nd goal of the game on the PK less than 5 minutes into the frame! You have to give it to Banff though, as they never gave up and played a hard clean game. Final score in this one was 4-1 for SISEC!

Now we take this week to prepare and look ahead to the upcoming weekend, as the team will travel about 45 minutes north to Olds in our first Tournament action of the year. We have 2 games Friday (8am vs Olds & 3pm vs RMAA Renegades) as well as 1 game on Saturday (2pm vs Calgary Rangers). Depending on how well we play during the games, we could have either 1 or 2 games set for Sunday. Stay tuned for more news.

GO SISEC!
